The Art Works Conference is a one day arts & entrepreneurship conference designed to give you resources and information to help transfer your creative skills to a business context. The day will be filled with presentations on business skills geared to the artist, invaluable networking opportunities amongst peers and industry professionals, a facilitated panel discussion with leaders in the arts field in Ottawa and featuring dynamic key note speakers:
Dr. Jennifer Dickson, CM, RA, LLD,
Dr. Jennifer Dickson is one of Canada’s most distinguished photographic artists. Over the span of her impressive career her work has shown the world over, and is included in the permanent collection of the Canadian Museum of Contemporary Photography, an affiliate of the National Art Gallery. The National Archives of Canada established the Jennifer Dickson Fonds, a project ongoing until the artist’s death which will eventually hold all of the artist’s original photographic material. Jennifer was named to the Order of Canada (CM) in 1995, awarded an honorary doctorate (LLD) in 1988 by the University of Alberta, Edmonton and elected to the Royal Academy of Arts, London, England in 1970 (RA.) In 2002 she was given the Victor Toglesy award by the Council for the Arts, Ottawa, for cultural leadership.
Paul Portelli, Sculptor, Gallery Owner, Visual Merchandiser.
Paul Portelli is a specialist in retail design, merchandising and event coordination. As well, he operated a gallery/sculpture studio in Warkworth, Ontario for 22 years. He has worked with many major retailers in Visual Merchandising and has developed and planned many major. His past clients have Included Holt Renfrew, Microsoft, Proctor and Gamble, Lindt Chocolates and Mercedes Benz.
He is the author of articles on trends in visual merchandising in many Canadian publications, such as Crafts Plus, Style and Men’s Wear Canada and has made regular guest appearances on television shows, Cityline, Craftscape and Savoir Faire.
